Q: How would you describe the TBP experience?
A:Â My time in TBP was a whirlwind of a learning experience that impacted, strengthened and bolstered my faith and life. Through the Truth and Beauty Project, I was reminded of the Awesomeness and creativity of our God and his thoughtful handcrafted design throughout our world. The experience immersed my whole self and challenged me to live in a whole new way. I was reminded of how much God loves me and cares for me! Throughout the whole trip, I felt so loved on and cared for, both by God and by those in Rome. John showed us the foundations of our faith. He taught us philosophy, history, and theology, and showed us art related to our life and faith. We had experiences that were as valuable and informative as college classes but had the privilege of traveling throughout Rome, which made it a more immersive experience! Ashley spent dedicated time getting to know us and sharing with us ways we could transform our lives to more fully let God renew and transform them! It was such an honor and a privilege to get to follow John and Ashley around and witness God working through them!Â
Q: What is your FIAT project? Â
A: During my time in Rome, I rediscovered a passion for hospitality, which became the foundation for my FIAT project. The warmth and generosity I experienced from John, Ashley, and many others in Rome had a lasting impact on me, inspiring a desire to extend that same spirit to others. My scriptural studies leading up to and during my time in Rome deepened my understanding of the biblical significance of hospitality and God’s emphasis on it in the New and Old Testament.Â
The focus of my FIAT project is to create a support group for college women with chronic illnesses, offering a Christian space for connection and fellowship. I wanted to create a social environment where we could gather and fellowship and point each other toward God’s love. We hosted our first gathering in October, where we had meaningful discussions about the Lord’s presence in our pain. I am excited to continue fostering this supportive space for women to come together.Â

Q: What's a particular moment or story from your TBP Immersion you will never forget?
A: Something from the trip I will never forget was how rich Rome is with Christian history! Basically every street and corner has some important significance that left me amazed! We had the privilege of seeing so many relics and historical spots that I had never dreamed of seeing! For example, we were able to visit where Paul and Peter were imprisoned before they died! Having the time to pause and reflect on all the saints who came before me, and committed their lives to ensuring the gospel was spread, was such an impactful experience that I think on often!Â
Q: What is something that surprised you?
A: Something that surprised me the most in my Immersion was how intentional John and Ashley were in everything they did! They treated every friend, stranger, and person such respect and honor that reminded me of Jesus. Ashley made a point to learn our names and pray for us before we arrived in Rome. She shared the importance of valuing every individual person and making sure nobody is overlooked. They also had such consideration and compassion for each other! This impacted me deeply because I want to be a representative like they are and care for people this well!Â
Q:Â What's next?
A: After leaving Italy, I am hoping to continue to embrace the spirit of compassion, hospitality, and intentionality I experienced in Rome. I am trying to build more intentional relationships with my classmates, coworkers, family, and friends. I have begun inviting more people into my house to have meals and meaningful conversations, and I am really excited for more! This along with my FIAT are slowly working to make my life a reflection of God’s goodness, beauty, and love in my life!
