Prayer in an empty Vatican square

Updated: Jun 11, 2020

First Sunday post-lockdown: only a handful went to pray with Pope Francis at the noon, Sunday Angelus.

Security guards stood around twiddling their thumbs.

Second Sunday: this week, there were about two handfuls of people who showed up. The photo below shows people patiently waiting in line to go through security and enter the Square, all standing 1 meter apart.

Sadly, after they waited for so long, the policeman at the front of the line made one wave of his arm implying that they wouldn’t allow people in through that entryway. So all of these folks who’d stood in the sun for so long had to scurry and try to beat each other to the entrance on the other side of the Square.
