I know you’ve been hiding that dream of living abroad deep down inside, tricking yourself into believing that you’ll get around to it one day. At this point you could probably write a novel filled with the excuses you keep telling yourself, hoping that one day that burning desire will fade with time. But guess what, it hasn’t and it never will. It’s a part of who you are, so why not embrace it?
I’m going to be brutally honest here, the only thing getting in the way of you living abroad is you. Specifically it is your lack of courage. Now I know courage is not an easy thing to have, just ask the Lion from Wizard of Oz, but I know you’ve got it in you. All you have to do is look.
So how do you find the courage, where do you even begin to look? Well first let’s start with a quick little pep talk to put things in perspective.
You are a strong individual with a valued skill set. Finding work before, after, or even during your time abroad will take effort but it will not be impossible.
You are a curious soul with a thirst for adventure. Why wouldn’t you want to see the world? Just think of all the people you will meet and the stories you will have to tell!
You are creative and innovative. You can overcome any challenge that is thrown your way. Don’t forget that it is during the tight times that the best ideas are born.
So you see, all those fears that keep delaying your time abroad are really just in your head. Now I’m not saying that you shouldn’t be nervous, because it’s the things that make you a little nervous that are worth doing. What I’m saying is don’t let those nerves talk you out of something you want so badly, because in the end they are only nerves about the unknown. And just think of all the beautiful things you have found before in the unknown!
So what is the formula for finding the courage to live abroad? Are there magic words to say, or some special potion in a bottle to drink? Maybe the secret is revealed with age, you know that whole wisdom and years correlation thing.
Well, truthfully it is very simple. All it takes is five seconds of insane bravery to say yes. Because once you say yes, you will never be able to turn back. You have everything you need inside of you, you just need five seconds of trust in who you are and what God’s plan is for you.
Dear Spirit, you are only five seconds away from that life you crave to live.
